Two African Wild Dogs in Motion

Two African Wild Dogs (Lycaon pictus) in motion, demonstrating pack behavior as they corner and sniff out a tasty treat hidden below logs in their enclosure at the Denver Zoo.  Also called Wildehond (Africaans) or Mbwa mwitu (Swahili), these canids usually hunt in large packs with separate male and female hierarchies. These dogs have primarily white long shaggy coats with black stripes and muzzles, although others of their species may be brown or golden in color as well.
