Red Rose

A red rose in sunlight. The rose is partly open, some of the petals curving out from the middle, and still partly closed, with a core of curled petals wrapped around the bud. I've rarely seen such beautiful roses as these, which were growing in a garden in front of a house in Fort Bragg CA. This is one of the first photos I put on this site, and has always been by far the most popular.

Pink Rose Open

Elegant Pink Rose

This elegant light pink rose looks almost as though it were carved in porcelain. Something about the way the petals curl gives it a classic, almost Victorian aspect. In the center of the rose, the petals are still wrapped tightly around the bud, while on the outside they curl out around the stem against a mostly black background.

Red Rose Fully Open

Red Rose and Rosebud

Pink Rosebud

The earliest of these lovely pictures of roses in sunlight were taken in the rose garden of a friend's house in Fort Bragg, California. These pictures of roses were some of the first pics I posted to Free Nature Pictures, and they're still among the best.
Also, I've recently added some new rose pictures taken in the Denver Botanical Gardens. The new pictures are higher resolution and higher quality, but I still think the actual roses from the original series were nicer - more full and well-rounded, with more lush petals.
These rose images are great for making your own valentines, and they always get a lot more popular around February 14th. Rose pictures by any other name...
