Description:
Several turtles sunbathing on partly submerged logs in a pond in the Rio Grande nature preserve in Albuquerque, New Mexico. In the foreground, three turtles sit sunning themselves on a log surrounded by blue water. We believe these turtles are of the variety known as "red eared slider," because they have a slight red marking behind their eyes, which can be seen on the turtle on the left. The turtle on the right is facing toward the camera, with its head fully extended, and the yellow markings around the opening in the shell and the underside of the neck are clearly visible. On either side of the photo are other turtles sunning themselves in the background.
