Description:
The strange and well-camoflaged Rockfish, taken at Underwater World in Mooloolaba, Queensland, Australia. This bizarre fish strongly resembles a barnicle-encrusted rock or lump of coral, a perfect disguise for hiding out on the sea bed. You can see the eyes of the fish near the top of its bulbous body, and a slight hint of tail fin at the rear. Otherwise, this fish could easily pass for a rock. Seen here from the side, the fish is covered with tufts and encrustations that look like lichen or barnacles. It lies still, hiding on the bottom of the acquarium next to a spiny sea urchin.
