A huge red dragonfly with transparent, red-veined wings, viewed close up. In this photo, the fine hairs on the thorax and just behind the bulbous red eyes are clearly visible. The thin transparent wings have bright red and orange veins. This giant red dragonfly was sitting on a reed by a pool in a creek in Death Valley, California.
