Desert Caterpillar

A huge, spotted caterpillar crawling across the bottom of Ubehebe Crater in Death Valley, California. This caterpillar is gray with tiny bright yellow spots, and an orange head. It is crawling on a twig lying among rocks on a surface of dried red clay. On its tail is a single orange spike.
Brown Butterfly 1
DownloadDescription: A small brown butterfly feeding from a cluster of purple flowers. Highlighted in afternoon sunlight, the mottled patterns on the butterfly's wings are clearly visible. It has bulbous black eyes, and a long black proboscis, which it is using to drink nectar from the flowers. Its body is slightly furry, with light brown hair, and it has short antannae.

Striped Fly

Black Slug

A black slug amoung the leaves on the forest floor, seen from above. Only the top part of the slug's body is visible, the tail is buried in the leaves. It has a wrinkled patch on its back, furrowed with deep ridges. The upper portion of its back is rough and shiny. Its eye stalks are partly extended, and it is turning its head down toward the bottom of the photo. Of course, slugs are mollusks, not insects, but we don't have a mollusk pictures category yet. Snails
